Dholera Solar Park will be the World’s Largest Solar Park by 2030

In this article, we will discuss Dholera Solar Park which will be the World’s Largest Solar Park. In India, it is a part of one of the biggest Infrastructure Development Programs. Additionally, Dholera is known as the solar city in Gujrat. The state government has allotted 11,000 hectares of land for this project near the Gulf of Khambhat with a Budget of Rs. 25000 crores. The Dholera Solar Park includes 1.6 million solar PV panels, 5000 Central inverters, and approximately 25000 km DC cables.

Gujarat with Mega energy projects in the solar power sector has become India’s third-largest solar-producing state. Gujarat government believes that after policy initiative and strong investors, the renewable energy capacity of 38500 MW by 2025 and 61000 MW by 2030 will achieve. In the same direction, many other solar power projects are also initiated. Among them, the most important is Dholera Solar Park, which lies 80 km from Ahmedabad.

Moreover, Dholera Solar Park is the World’s largest Solar Power Plant with a capacity of 5,000 MW and will be constructed in Dholera. Announced in 2009, and is a part of India’s first world-class Greenfield smart cities project. Additionally, it is also a part of India’s 175GW solar energy target. This project was approved by the Ministry of new and renewable energy in May 2018.

The government of India under the “Development of Solar Parks and Ultra-Mega Solar Power Project” sanctioned 14,375 MW of Solar Power capacity to Gujarat. The target of this project is to facilitate solar developers to set up solar power projects. Where they can get plug-and-play facilities in solar parks. Moreover, its objective is to achieve 40 GW of solar energy. If the photovoltaic capacity is observed then Dulara solar Park accounts for 1000 MW in Phase 1 and 4,000 MW in Phase 2.

Who Developed Dholera Solar Park?

Dholera solar power Park will be developed by the Gujarat government-owned Gujarat Urja Nigam Limited under the PPP model. Moreover, a total of six major organizations are involved.

  • Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL)
  • Gujarat Urja Nigam Limited (GUVN)
  • Gujarat Electric Transmission Corporation (GETCO)
  • Solar Energy Corporation Limited (SECI)
  • Central Transmission Unit (CTU)
  • Power Grid Corporation of India

Total Cost of Dholera Solar Park Project

The project will be completed by 2040, and Dholera SIR will prove to be a technologically and infrastructurally enhanced engine for economic resurgence for India. The total land area is lead for 30 years at an annual price of Rs. 10000 per hectare. This 11000-hectare area is divided into 11 sub-parts, each part containing 27 slots of 100 MW, 160 MW, and 200 MW. The infrastructure will be constructed so that it does not affect the natural habitat of flora and fauna.

According to reports, Dholara Solar Park will be developed in two phases. In the first phase, a 1000 MW Solar Power Plant is being set up by Gujarat Power Corporation Limited with a budget of Rs. 5000 crores. Moreover, generate electricity will be evacuated by Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited. In the second phase, it will be prepared by the Solar Energy Corporation of India with a budget of Rs. 20000 crores. Additionally, generated electricity will be evacuated by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

Power Evacuation Infrastructure of Park

Power will be evacuated through a 49 km long 33 KW underground XLPE Cable Infrastructure Network. Which will transfer to the substation and then PGCIL Grid Station. A power that contains an XLPE cable will be stepped up twice. It will be capital off from 33kv to 200kv at polling sub-stations. Moreover, at PGVIL grid substations it will be stepped up to 400kv. That will increase the output voltage for which step-up transformers are installed between the power generator and the power grid. Further, electricity can be transmitted over a long distance at low prices.

Extra protection will be provided to photovoltaic modules, inverters, and transformers through an underground armored cable conduit. Moreover, a proper drainage system will be installed to avoid standing water so that the underground cable structure is safe and protected. Additionally, overhead transmission lines will ingeminate safely and the foundation structure should be able to withstand the wind speed of 180 km/h.

The Technology used Is Photovoltaic Technology

In Dholera Solar Park, Poly-Crystalline Silicon Technology Photovoltaic cells will be used. This technology is highly efficient and technologically mature. Moreover, with the help of this technique, the risk of deteriorating PV modules in the extreme climate conditions of India can also be reduced. These models will be installed between silicone rubber edge sealing and will mount on plain cement concrete to protect them from tides and floods.

For telecommunication facilities, Radio masts & Telecommunication Antenna towers will be installed. Further, canals will be made to send water from the Narmada river to the plant side. Water will also be supplied with the help of underground water pumps, ground service reservoirs, and a transmission pipeline.
